Fibershed Finland is a non-profit organisation that builds place-based networks of producers and users of natural fibers. We are part of the global Fibershed network, which originated in California.
Fibershed promotes regenerative farming and place-based textile production, and wants to connect consumers to producers via communication and education.
According to our vision in Finland
- The consumer has learnt to respect materials that are produced locally, respecting the climate and the soil, and bringing a livelihood to local producers
- Local fiber processing and textile manufacuring has returned, enabling soil so cloth production chains being formed
- The traditional skills are thriving, but also new innovations are welcome in both agriculture and textile technologies
These are the actions taken by the association to realize our vision
- We encourage farmers to produce fibers by providing them with inforation and networks to meet other producers and users of those materials. We connect small and medium sized companies operating in this sector.
- We map the situation regarding domestic production chains, identify the gaps and look for solutions to fill them in collaboration with other actors
- We promote the use of natural materials via communication towards domestic brands as well as consumers.
